#PeopleofPCH is a series that highlights the diverse stories of staff, residents, volunteers, and families across Partners Community Health (PCH).

Meet Chelsea Haughton, a Personal Support Worker retiring after 37 years of service. Chelsea shares her story in celebration of her remarkable career and as part of our May #BelongingatPCH theme: Excellence, reflecting our commitment to high-quality care and a culture of continuous learning.

After 37 years as a Personal Support Worker, Chelsea Haughton is retiring, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, resilience, and a deep commitment to care at Partners Community Health.

Throughout her career, Chelsea witnessed the evolution of long-term care, growing alongside the organization and the many people who became part of her journey.

To Chelsea, her workplace was more than just a job.

“It was my second home, my second family. I met so many lovely people over the years, and that’s what made it so special.”

Her passion for caring for others and connecting with residents and families has been at the heart of her work. Over time, she found purpose not only in providing care, but in the life lessons the role gave her, reflecting PCH’s commitment to excellence and continuous learning.

“Working in care gives you a lot. It teaches you a lot about life.”

One of the most defining moments in her career came during the COVID-19 pandemic. Like many in long-term care, Chelsea and her colleagues faced uncertainty and loss, but also found strength in one another and learned through experience.

“We learned so much during COVID. It was a difficult time, but we learned from it. I hope others can learn from what we went through so they can do even better.”

Chelsea also spoke about the importance of learning from one another, something that continues to shape the experience at PCH today.

“You can learn from books, but the best learning comes from your co-workers. Hands-on experience makes the difference. Every resident is different, and you learn how to care for them through experience.”

Her words reflect the spirit of Belonging at PCH, where teams support one another, share knowledge, and work together to provide high-quality care and meaningful experiences for residents and families.

This week, Chelsea’s remarkable career was celebrated alongside her colleagues and members of the leadership team. The gathering was filled with appreciation, reflection, and recognition of the lasting impact she has made over nearly four decades. Surrounded by those who worked alongside her, Chelsea was honoured not only for her years of service, but for the compassion and dedication she brought to her role every day.

As Chelsea begins this next chapter, we thank her for her incredible contributions and wish her all the best in her well-deserved retirement.
