Summer Student Volunteer Program

Gain experience. Give Back. Make a Difference.

Our Summer Student Volunteer Program offers high school students the opportunity to complete their community service hours through a meaningful, structured four-week placement in July or August.

Students become part of our long-term care community as Activity Assistant volunteers, supporting residents through conversation, recreational activities, cognitive engagement, and intergenerational connection. Working alongside staff in a supervised environment, volunteers help seniors stay active, social and connected – whether sharing stories, assisting with group programs, or bringing fresh energy into the home.

This program is ideal for students interested in healthcare, community service, or simply making a positive impact. In addition to earning required hours, participants gain valuable communication skills, confidence, and a deeper understanding of working with older adults. Students are asked to commit to the full four-week session.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Be 15-17 years old.
  • Able to commit to the 4 weeks of the program. This includes:
    • One 3-hour shift (either morning or afternoon) every weekday (Monday to Friday).
  • Must complete a TB skin test (not covered by OHIP).
  • Provide two references.
