Mississauga, ON (November 2, 2023) – Partners Community Health (PCH), Trillium Health Partners (THP) and the Government of Ontario are revolutionizing long-term care (LTC) in the City of Mississauga with the opening of Wellbrook Place, two new state-of-the-art LTC homes, part of a larger Seniors’ Campus of Care, focused on providing specialized services to residents in the homes and the community. Wellbrook Place brings 632 much-needed new LTC beds to the city and is part of PCH’s larger plan that introduces innovative and inclusive programs and services, and new models of care delivery to families and communities.
Built by THP in partnership with Infrastructure Ontario and the Ministry of Long-Term Care, Wellbrook Place, operated by PCH, is one of three long-term care projects under the Ontario Government’s Accelerated Build Pilot program, which was announced at the onset of the pandemic. Swift action from the Ontario government, along with generous early support from donor Gerry Beasley, has enabled the delivery of critically needed long-term care in Mississauga, where the population of seniors is set to triple by the year 2040.
PCH is an independent, not-for-profit, charitable organization that was created to do things differently. Since its founding in 2021, PCH has established itself as an effective and collaborative LTC operator and, as a member of Mississauga Health (Mississauga Ontario Health Team), is building strong system partnerships and connections that will allow Wellbrook Place to provide better care integration and specialized services to residents and the community.
Wellbrook Place will also be part of a Seniors’ Campus of Care that will include Mississauga’s first residential 12-bed hospice, operated by Heart House Hospice, a Health Services Building, and a Dialysis Centre, that will be operated by THP in early 2024. Together, this campus looks to avoid unplanned hospitalization of seniors and help them receive the right care in the right place, at the right time.
Key features of Wellbrook Place include:
- A combined total of 632 single-occupancy bedrooms throughout both homes, with shared bathrooms for residents living in basic accommodations.
- Enhanced HVAC and modern infection prevention & control measures.
- Plenty of common spaces and lounges, a residents’ salon, spiritual care services, central therapy, flexible private family dining rooms, and designated spaces for resident and community programming.
- Tranquil outdoor terraces and courtyards on the ground floor, and patios in each resident neighbourhood.
- Food prepared on site and in serveries on each floor, for a more home-like experience, and personalized meal options.
- Supports for those with complex care needs, including two secure units designed with features to safely care for people living with advanced dementia including, innovative WanderGuard elopement prevention technology, and specialized care staff.
- Bariatric rooms throughout the homes, built and furnished to support an underserved LTC population.
- Virtual care that connects LTC primary care to hospital specialists.
“These new state-of-the-art homes will connect more seniors in Mississauga to the 24/7 care they need close to their loved ones and close to their communities for generations to come. Right across the province, we’re getting shovels in the ground and delivering on our government’s commitment to build and upgrade almost 60,000 long-term care beds, ensuring our seniors get the care they need, when they need it.”
– The Hon. Doug Ford, Premier of Ontario
“Our government is fixing long-term care and ensuring we build homes for seniors in the communities they helped build. These state-of-the-art long-term care homes are a significant milestone for Mississauga — Wellbrook East and Wellbrook West will provide 632 residents with a new, modern and comfortable place to call home.”
– The Hon. Stan Cho, Ontario’s Minister of Long-term Care
“Wellbrook Place represents an exciting new chapter for the City of Mississauga, and our senior population living throughout the region. Through these new homes, Seniors’ Hub and broader campus, we are excited to continue developing a learning and leading healthcare organization providing best in class services across the aging continuum. ”
– Tess Romain, President of Partners Community Health
“Today’s announcement highlights Trillium Health Partners’ commitment to help shape the future of health care for our community and beyond. In partnership with Infrastructure Ontario and the Ministry of Long-Term Care, we built two long-term care homes to increase capacity and address a lack of access in a diverse, fast-growing, and aging community. Wellbrook Place represents an exciting and new opportunity to help drive change in health care and for Partners Community Health to provide access to innovative care to seniors and their families in Mississauga.”
– Karli Farrow, President and CEO of Trillium Health Partners
The new homes will officially begin welcoming residents on November 7, 2023. PCH is working in close partnership with Home and Community Care Support Services (HCCSS) in providing Ontarians with long-term care options, including Wellbrook Place, and supporting their transition from the community.
